Look Inside is an alternative melodic-rock band from Madrid, with multiple influences: from grunge to American garage rock, with an indie reminiscence and an alternative style.
Careful lyrics have been evident since the first album by Santiago Clement, recorded in 2014 and remastered in 2016: “Unreal Life” signifies above everything introspection in the unconscious, looking for answers and to understand.
This importance of the lyrics is a part of the band's style because it always tries to give a meaning through the songs, to transmit a message. It also happens in this EP “Revive” (2017), which supposes a kind of consequence or an ending to the previous introspection, after a period of searching, “Revive” allows for escaping from the abyss. It allows for a cure, as a way of therapy. It is the key which is found founded to open the door into a new brighter period. This is also reflected in the music, the grunge style is slightly dissolved, or at least it is disguised. The introduction of new keyboards (synth, wurlitzer and Hammond) could give an indie transparency, and along with the new younger backing vocals could even be seen to look back to the 70-80's. A regression but in the good sense, in the direction of growing, towards a more refreshing EP, dynamic, fluent and maybe optimistic.
Beginner could have an American folk touch. It has continuity n the melodies, that are charismatic and accessible. In a way of classic overture, it introduces us to the general theme of the EP: to begin again, a new beginning. Also, it sets out a clearly defined musical style.
Signs, talks about life, once again the sensitive and what we see is important but also what we don´t see, which is sometimes much more powerful and intense. Instrumentally, the electric guitars play an important role, as well as the new voices in the chorus leading to that we can consider more alternative rock.
Revive, inspired in the Requiem by Mozart, is about coming back to life, following the thematic thread of having a new chance.
Sunshine, with a characteristic funky bass could be the less optimistic because it talks about the sweet and sour life and the ephemeral passage of time, but it can also be connected with beautiful memories and reliving tem, and being able to imagine a future through the dreams and how to create them. First of all, projecting them in the mind and then setting them in motion.
Finally Juniper; is the instrumental song of the EP. It defines the band, not only musically, but also every instrument has its own small protagonism in this song. A strong connection between the source with the whole. However the style could remind us of the 70's again or an alternative rock with a heavy groove with light verses.
An in this way, this EP was born, as an evolution of the first album and as a future of a band that now has a definitive lineup, and with an intention of being direct, natural and spontaneous. An EP born from the illusion of what is to come…
